The Positive Change Center is an ongoing initiative that has already made significant progress towards its goal of providing a safe and supportive environment for veterans and other members of the community struggling with mental health issues or emotional trauma. Thanks to the partnership with the Inner Lighthouse Mission, the first Positive Change Center on Camano Island has made great strides in intentionally building and constructing spaces with the involvement of veterans, who have been leading various projects as part of their healing process.
The center provides a unique space where people can come together to share their experiences and support each other as they work towards healing and personal growth. Currently, the center offers a range of programs and services, including counseling, peer support groups, mindfulness and meditation classes, and other holistic therapies.
One of the most notable aspects of the center is the intentional involvement of veterans in the building and construction process. Through this process, veterans have gained a sense of purpose and accomplishment while also building valuable skills that can help them in their civilian lives. The projects that veterans have led at the Positive Change Center have been varied and wide-ranging, including building structures such as outdoor meditation gardens, creating permaculture gardens, and art projects and murals to beautify the center and create an inspiring and welcoming atmosphere for all who visit.
Throughout the building process, veterans have worked closely with other members of the community, including architects, designers, and construction professionals. This collaborative effort has not only created a sense of camaraderie and teamwork but has also helped to bridge the gap between veterans and civilians. As the Positive Change Center continues to grow and evolve, it remains committed to empowering veterans and the community to create positive change and heal together.
